TITLE: MEDIA ACCESSIBILITY SOLUTIONS FOR DEAF PEOPLE AND TRAINING ACTIONS FOR DEAF

PEOPLE: SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER

Summary: This product will be an analysis of the solutions available for media accessibility in each country from a technical and operational perspective, with special focus on the solution established in the UK by Red Bee Media. It will also define the landscape in terms of sign language training and the availability of suitable candidates in each country. It will include a full solution specification, technical diagrams and operational description for the sign language services currently provided by Red Bee Media for live and pre-recorded sign language interpreting and a description of recruitment and training processes. Red Bee uses a unique software, Intersub to drive live interpreting with deaf interpreters. The live context means working in the moment and without a script. Subtitles are created from an early low latency audio feed and fed as live text to Intersub. This appears on the prompter in the signing studio where the interpreter can see the subtitles scrolling up on the screen. Interpreters transfer the written English content into BSL to deliver the live news, programming or events. In this part, or somewhere else, we will also need to assess the profile of candidates available in the other countries.
